City of Rogers Senior Advisory Commission

CALL TO ORDER and PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: 5:30 pm
In Attendance: Les Smith, Elroy Mueller, Betty Gice, Terri Hawkins, Pat Johnson, Shannon Klick: City Council Liaison, Bruce Gorecki: City Council Liaison, Mike Bauer and Liz Dirks.

2.01. Approval of March Minutes
3. GENERAL BUSINESS
3.01. Senior Newsletter: Betty Gice reported that 142 people are subscribed to receive the senior newsletter in the mail each month, which is in increase of 11 people since the last meeting. Recreation Services Coordinator Dirks reported that 222 people are subscribed to receive the senior newsletter via email each month.
4.01. Congregate Dining: Recreation Services Coordinator Dirks reported the average number of meals served per day since the last meeting. March averaged 9 meals, April was 18, and May was 12. At least 2 meals were cancelled each month due to low reservations.
4.02. Senior Program Review: Recreation Services Coordinator Dirks shared what programs have occurred since the last meeting and what is planned to occur in the next few months. Terri mentioned that she is happy about our partnership with Community Education and likes that we are programming some of their classes at the Senior Center.
4.03. Rogers-Hassan Senior Friendship Group Update: Betty Gice reported that the group fundraised $1,060 in April with the Craft & Bake Sale and $399 in May with the Rogers Revue. The group is scheduled to have a booth at the Farmer’s Market the last Wednesday of each month. Betty also mentioned that the free luncheon, parade float decorating, and pie social are all coming up within the next month. Pat Johnson brought up the senior center task force and suggested the seniors attend 1-2 City Council meetings a year to ensure the plan for a future senior center is not forgotten about.
