POSITION SUMMARY

Perform maintenance of City of Rogers streets, City facilities, park grounds, playground equipment, athletic fields and trails.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Parks Maintenance
o Install, construct and maintain parks, parking lots, open spaces and trails
o Perform landscaping and grounds maintenance including planting, mowing, and fertilizing, etc.
o Maintain recreational areas such as ball fields, park shelters, ice rinks and other recreation facilities
o Install, operate and maintain City irrigation systems
o Perform routine safety checks and inspections on vehicles and equipment
o Perform duties in accordance with appropriate safety and security standards
o Other duties and special projects as assigned
• Snow Removal
o Operate loaders, tractors, and trucks to remove snow from City streets and municipal parking lots
o Operate sander and apply salt to roadways, sidewalks, and municipal parking lots
o Shoveling of sidewalks and around hydrants as necessary
• General Duties
o Operate all equipment used in a safe and efficient manner to include, but not limited to the following: light trucks, tractors, single axle dump truck, skid steer, chainsaw and miscellaneous hand and power tools
o Perform minor maintenance work and repairs on equipment operated
o Coordinate major repairs with Parks Supervisor
o Assist other Public Works personnel in miscellaneous tasks

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Works in or on public works and park equipment, facilities, and grounds in a variety of sometimes extreme weather conditions
• Regularly exposed to a variety of hazards including proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals, loud noises, or confined spaces
• The employee will be required to wear personal protective equipment under appropriate circumstances
• Works on the road or in the road right-of-ways, private property and municipal properties

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to sit, stand, and/or walk for up to 10 hours per day
• Ability to bend, crawl, and/or climb
• Must be able to grasp, hold and effectively operate precision and simple hand tools and equipment
• Perform general labor including frequently lifting and/or moving up to 80 lbs. and occasionally lifting and/or moving more than 100 lbs.
• Vision must be sufficient to read instructions, distant vision (20/40 or better) and possess depth discrimination
• Hearing must be sufficient to detect all warning signals and environmental hazards
• Participation in random drug and/or alcohol testing required

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• Valid Minnesota Class B Commercial Driver’s License
• Six months experience with truck, light equipment, and general maintenance
