Smoke Control or Exhaust Systems

A permit is required to install or alter smoke control or exhaust systems.  Smoke control systems shall be tested by a special inspector in accordance with the MN Building code and witnessed by the fire code official.

Submittal Requirements

  • Make-up-air

  • Overhead doors shall not qualify as make-up air

  • Location

  • Size

  • Damper locations and their operations

  • Vents

  • Size and spacing of vents

  • Temperature at which the vent will operate

  • Curtain Boards

  • Location

  • Depth o Size of the area formed

  • Other pertinent details

  • Specifics of the control room for smoke control or mechanical ventilation

  • System inputs, outputs, and control systems information

  • Standby power supply information (Smoke Control Systems)

  • Calculations
