Rogers, MN – Rogers police officers responded to a serious motor vehicle vs bicyclist crash on August 4, 2019, at approximately 12:14 a.m., in the 22600 block of Industrial Blvd. A caller reported to 911 that a bicyclist was hit by a car at this location, and was unconscious. First responders attempted life-saving measures on the bicyclist, but he was declared deceased by medical professionals at the scene at approximately 1:02 a.m.

The bicyclist was an adult male, and identified by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office as Kevin J. Hegyi, 45, of Rogers. The driver of the vehicle is an adult female, and will not be identified at this time pending completion of our investigation.

Investigators from the Rogers Police Department, with the assistance of the Minnesota State Patrol and Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, are working diligently to piece together the chain of events that led up to the crash. The driver of the vehicle remains cooperative in our investigation.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to the Hegyi family, and the Hopkins Police Department, for their irreplaceable loss. First responders attempted life-saving measures on the bicyclist, but he was declared deceased by medical professionals at the scene at approximately 1:02 a.m.

The bicyclist was an adult male, and the driver of the vehicle is an adult female. Preliminary investigation revealed that both the bicyclist and the vehicle were travelling in the westbound lane of Industrial Blvd. at the time of the crash.

The driver of the vehicle has been cooperative, and a thorough investigation is ongoing. This is an open and active investigation, and no further information will be released at this time. Further information will be released as it becomes available.
