With the goal of enhancing public trust and accountability to provide the highest level of professional service and transparency, the Rogers Police Department utilizes the advancement of technology. To further achieve this goal, body-worn cameras will be used for the purpose of documenting evidence and accurately capturing contacts between members of the Department and the public. The Rogers Police Department is committed to the utilization of body-worn cameras as a means to reach this goal.
Per Minnesota State Statute 626.8473 (Portable Recording Systems Adoption; Written Policy Required) https://www.revisor.mn.gov/statutes/cite/626.8473:
A local law enforcement agency must provide an opportunity for public comment before it purchases or implements a portable recording system. At a minimum, the agency must accept public comments submitted electronically or by mail, and the governing body with jurisdiction over the budget of the law enforcement agency must provide an opportunity for public comment at a regularly scheduled meeting.
To meet this requirement, the Rogers Police Department Policy 425 (Portable Audio/Video Recorders) and the 2021 General Records Retention Schedule for Minnesota Cities are available for viewing below. Public comment, either by electronic means or mail regarding this policy will be collected from Thursday, November 18, 2021, through Thursday, December 2, 2021, at 4:30 p.m.
