Lead and Copper Tap Water Monitoring Report
The City of Rogers is currently conducting three-year monitoring for lead and copper. Samples of tap water were collected from 30 randomly-selected homes in the City which were sent to the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) for testing.
Action Level
Action Level is the concentration of a contaminant which, if exceeded, triggers treatment or other requirements which a water system must follow. The action level for lead is 15 ppb (parts per billion) and for copper is 1300 ppb.
The results of the 30 samples received from MDH revealed the following 90th percentile levels:
90th percentile lead level = < 5 ppb
90th percentile copper level = 566 ppb
Based on these results, the amounts of lead and copper contained in the Rogers public water system are below the action levels for both lead and copper.
Maximum Contaminant Level Goal (MCLG).
The Maximum Contaminant Level Goal (MCLG) set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is the maximum level of a contaminant in drinking water at which there is no known or anticipated risk to health, allowing an adequate margin of safety. The MCLG for lead is zero (o) and for copper is 1300 ppb.
Again, based on the results, the amounts of lead and copper contained in the Rogers public water system are below the Maximum Contaminant Level Goals for both lead and copper.
